How to do Lon Chaney's Phantom make up

 First as you probably already gathered you need a good photo of his face. Here is my Lon Chaney's Phantom Photo gallery  or just use the picture above

The things you'll need for his make-up

Adhesive surgical tape clear or see threw (at any drug store or Save on)

Nose putty, Morticians Wax or Fake Skin I suggest nose putty,  (http://www.theatrehouse.com/en-us/dept_8.html )

Spirit gum adhesive and remover ( http://stageandtheatermakeup.com/bnarc.htm )

Black eye liner pencil (at any drug store or Save on)

Teeth color Nicotine and black http://www.stagesupply.com/toothcolor.html

Crepe wool hair I suggest the color WH11( http://stageandtheatermakeup.com/bnhair.htm )

Now you can find most of everything if not everything at a local Halloween or costume store. If you don't wish to do that you can order on line.

Ok now your ready to begin. First glue the crepe hair to the bald cap in the places where he has hair. You should be able to find some good picture on my site for the back of his head. Now if you choose not to bye a bald and it's entirely up to you, I would just where his hat over your hair instead. Next wash your face off make sure all oil is off. Next cut a strip of adhesive take about 1 and half in. long and about a centimeter wide. Then take your spirit gum and put one small drop on the tip of your nose and one drop at the end of your noise like between your eyes but not quite that high. Then take your finger and make it tacky, keep touching it till the fibers feel sticky. Now take the peace of adhesive tape and attach one end to the tip of your noise. hold it there till it is stuck good some times you might need to add more spirit gum. Once it is stuck good bring the other end up to between your eyes and repeat the processes of getting it to stick. Now this might hurt and you really have to be the judge as to how high you can go. Now your nose should look like his. once you've done that break out your nose putty. You might want to knead it till it is warm in your hand and pliable. Now you have to sculpt his noise shape. I can't really help you here, but go slow and add little by little till it looks like his nose make sure you smooth the edges. Now here is where you can choose to use latex or you can just use spirit gum. You need to either put latex or spirit gum around the edges of the putty to keep the edges down. Now is when I normally put on my bald cap. Some times depending on the bald cap it might need to be trimmed to fit your head and around your ears. Pull it up over your head and secure into place. Two people is good for this part. You need to spirit gum the bald cape into place. Ok now pull out your Cream foundations and eye liner pencil. Now you really have to pay attention to his picture here for the shadows and highlights. I normally just copy the picture. Some crucial spots is his eyes and mouth. Notice he has two white rings directly under his eyes. Also pay close attention to his wrinkles. Lon Chaney had very deep smile lines as well as lines on his cheeks. Don't forget to put black in your nose holes to make them look deep. Ok now that you've cover your face with make-up put your teeth in or color them. I made my teeth so I could not tell you what ones to by what ever ones you think look the closest. I also put jell in the crepe hair to make it look greasy. Good luck
